Understanding the Bible as an Inspired Text

Christian interpretations of the Bible often differ from the interpretations of secular scholars, because Christians interpret it not as a mere collection of ancient religious writings but as Holy Scripture. We approach the text with reverence and with high expectations, in the belief that it is inspired by God. This belief has some important ramifications that affect our understanding of the Bible. Receiving it as the Word of God means believing that it is supremely true (even inerrant), harmonious, authoritative, and pertinent to our own lives. In the history of the Church these attitudes and beliefs concerning Scripture have been expressed in various ways by Christian teachers. The articles collected here represent conservative teachings, and are offered as prolegomena to the Christian interpretation of the Bible.
