Current Events

Commentary and links on current events of interest to Bible teachers.

The newspapers and the television present us daily with such a variety of "news" that we Christians often have a hard time seeing that there really is nothing new under the sun. The Bible, which was written over a very long period lasting more than a thousand years, contains sufficient guidance for all the issues that are being recycled and churned out by the "news" media of our times.

I will bring ruin upon this peopleSeptember, 2003. The removal of the Ten Commandments monument from the rotunda of the Supreme Court of Alabama by order of a federal judge is a sad and highly symbolical event for America. But there is nothing new about a nation's judges rejecting God's Law. The supreme Judge of heaven and earth has said that He will bring ruin on the people who reject His Law. This would be a good time for us to deepen our appreciation and understanding of the Ten Commandments by reading Thomas Watson's classic sermons on them (also here), or the essays by Arthur W. Pink. On a technical note, I have posted a page on the various ways in which Christians have enumerated the Commandments (sad to say, even this is a subject of controversy).
